Where our data comes from

Every result in a report comes from an official or industry source. Here's which one.

DVLA

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency supplies the vehicle record: make, colour, engine size, fuel type, date of first registration, tax status, CO₂ emissions, Euro status, the date the last V5C logbook was issued and whether the car is marked for export.

DVSA

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency supplies MOT history: every test result, failure reasons, advisories and the mileage recorded at each test. We use these readings to spot mileage that goes down.

Finance, write-off and stolen records

The Standard and Full checks use data from Experian, which draws on finance company records, the insurance industry's write-off register and the Police National Computer.

Valuations

Valuations in the Full check come from trusted third-party sources, based on recent sales and market prices of similar vehicles.

Other data

For the rest of the report we use trusted, industry-standard data sources, so you get a complete picture of the vehicle's history in one place.

How up to date is it?

Free check data is fetched live when you search. Paid reports are created at the moment you buy and show the date and time the data was checked.
