A full service history is one of the best signs a used Jaguar has been looked after, and it supports the price. A Jaguar service history check shows the dealer services recorded against the car, with the date and mileage of each.

How to check a Jaguar service history

  1. Type in the Jaguar's registration at the top of the page. There's no osh.jaguar.com login to sort out and no VIN to find.
  2. Look at the free check. It shows the DVLA record and every MOT, so you can be sure it's the right car.
  3. Get the service history check (£8.99) to see each Jaguar service on record, with the date and mileage, plus the factory spec sheet.
  4. Check it against the seller's story. A Jaguar sold with "full history" should have a service for every year or interval.

Have a look at the sample service history to see what's included, or use the service history check for other makes.

How Jaguar servicing works

Most Jaguars from the last decade are serviced once a year or at a set mileage, whichever comes first, and the car's display tells the driver when the next one is due. Brake fluid is changed on time rather than miles, usually every two years. The electric I-PACE has no oil to change, but it still has an annual service for brakes, coolant, filters and software. What you're looking for is a steady pattern of yearly visits.

How Jaguar service records work

Jaguar's Online Service History replaced the paper service book, and Jaguar shares the system with Land Rover. Owners register at osh.jaguar.com to view and print it, and any Jaguar or Land Rover retailer can print a copy. Only the owner and approved service centres can see it, so as a buyer you can't look it up yourself with the VIN.

Our check only needs the number plate, so you can see the Jaguar services on record before you travel. You don't need the owner's login, the VIN or a trip to a retailer.

The record is strongest for scheduled services. Repairs, warranty jobs and diagnostic visits are sometimes logged and sometimes not, so the check shows the backbone of the car's maintenance rather than every visit it ever had.

What to ask a Jaguar seller for

Ask for any invoices from independent Jaguar specialists, because their work won't be in the dealer record. Check the mileages on the invoices fit between the MOT readings either side, and that the VIN on the paperwork matches the car.

On a car with a big infotainment screen, ask whether the software is up to date. Jaguar issues updates for the touchscreen, engine and, on the I-PACE, the battery and charging, and a car that's missed several can have niggles a retailer will need to fix.

What to look for on a Jaguar

  • Long gaps between oil services on the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesels in the XE, XF and F-PACE, which don't take kindly to neglect or lots of short trips
  • Brake fluid changes on low-mileage cars, which are easy to skip because they're due on time, not miles
  • Software updates and recall work, which a Jaguar retailer can confirm from the VIN
  • A run of services at a dealer, then nothing, on a car the seller says has full history

A Jaguar that does few miles still needs servicing by time, so look for a visit at least every year or two depending on the model. One late service is nothing to worry about. A long run without any, or several crammed in before sale, should come off the asking price.

Services at independent garages

Plenty of older Jaguars are looked after by independent specialists, and a good one is nothing to worry about. Their work won't be in the Online Service History, so ask for the invoices and check the dates and mileages fit.

Low-mileage Jaguars still need servicing

Low miles don't mean less servicing. A Jaguar that's barely used still needs a visit by time, so a car with very few miles on the clock should still have regular entries on record. Our free mileage check shows the MOT readings, so you can see how the car has been used year to year.

For finance, theft and write-off records, run a reg check on the Jaguar before you buy.

Jaguar service history questions

Can I check a Jaguar's service history online?

Yes. Enter the registration and our service history check shows the Jaguar dealer services on record, with the date and mileage of each. You don't need the owner's login or the paper book.

What is osh.jaguar.com?

It's Jaguar's Online Service History portal for owners. You need to be the registered owner to log in, so it's no help when you're buying. Our check works from the registration instead.

How often does a Jaguar need servicing?

Most are serviced once a year or at a set mileage, whichever comes first. The exact interval depends on the model and engine, and the car tells the driver when it's due. Brake fluid is usually changed every two years.

Does a Jaguar I-PACE need servicing?

Yes. There's no engine oil, but it still needs a yearly service covering brakes, brake fluid, coolant, filters, tyres and software updates.

Is work at an independent garage shown?

Usually not. The check shows services done at Jaguar retailers. Work by independent specialists is fine, but you'll need the seller's invoices to see it.
